Ralph Drabble is a sort of sad born-loser type of character, he is after all a mall-cop. His wife tolerates his faults and their idiot elder son seeks the same in his life. Oogie the cat, Bob the duck and Wally the wiener dog lend their comic relief. Nuff said, But over all this comic sums up some of the matter-of-fact-ness about life and displays it well and funny.
Whether writers record memory, or transform it, or lie about it, is another question.
Helen Dunmore
A man's real possession is his memory. In nothing else is he rich, in nothing else is he poor.
Alexander Smith
